What are the most effective ways to evaluate your curiosity?

Curiosity- Do you ask questions when not required to? For example; when a company is replacing my window, I watch because I am curious; do I ask why they do __ a certain way or why the window has __ ? I find I am curious because I am knowledgeable and a creative. I like to know and learn about things I might not encounter everyday. This leads me to discover my own ways to create, or reinvent, in diverse and unconventional ways.

Firstly, we need to understand why people should evaluate their curiosity. Curiosity is one pillar that drives passion. If the Wright brothers had not been curious enough, the plane would not have come the time it did. If Charles Babbage wasn't curious enough, this laptop I'm typing with could probably still be generations behind. Point is, curiosity drives our passion to start a journey, and even for some, their reason for a particular career. You can evaluate your curiosity by consciously assessing your interests (passion). Things that interest you could be things you're curious about. Don't be static. Move out of your comfort zone, attempt new things, and keep an open mind. You will be amazed by the things that will tickle your fancy.

In my experience, it's very helpful to assess my curiosity to ensure I am not just going through the motions. Innovating, having the courage to share my ideas, and being open to new ideas is something that keeps me passionate about my work and serving others. It's always necessary to evaluate with an objective simple tool to self-assess. Am getting stagnant or burnt out? Am I scared to share my ideas? What are my hesitations? Simply going through an assessment tool might give me some insight that wasn't apparent. A new excitement for what I am working on could change an attitude, or a life.. Even if for just one day. That is valuable.

Whiteout a doubt you must ask questions. It’s hard to admit when you don’t know something but if you never ask clarity you never grow on understanding. The old saying “There is no dumb question” is absolutely true. If someone makes you feel stupid about a question that is not a good leader. That’s an insecure fool. Also most great leaders love to teach and help people understand. This is a tool to help both parties get the best results and builds loyalty.

I enjoy asking for feedback, not to seek approval, but because I understand that there might be a probability of having blind spots. Asking for feedback should be thought of as a skill to expand, enrich, and diversify one's perspective. I'm a strong believer that the more knowledge the better. There is never enough knowledge one can have because we live in a world where change is always happening. So, maintaining a mentality of openness towards seeking feedback could increase valuable ideas.

I wouldn't even say a curiosity journal. It's just that when you see people around, you'll see yourselves either surrounded by people who ask with a pure intention, and just for the sake of asking at first. And I'd say it all starts intentionally. You don't see yourself asking questions about things that you're not interested in something. But once you get used to it - it took me a lot of years (3 years tbh) to get into this habit of questioning the opposite of what is mentioned. So, rather than keeping a journal, I just do keep a set of things I'd like to ask going into any event.

Similarluy, apps will not trigger the same level of curiosity you get form doodling notes specially in newer places like cafes, parks and in transit.

I believe having a journal can prove to be beneficial. I use one note in tandem with focus planners to document my own lessons learned, best practices, questions, observations and notes. I believe documentation is key and can help navigate one’s curiosity and career. I believe it’s up to the individual to decide what works best whether they call it a “curiosity” journal or not.

I never used to pay attention to the world around me. I never really noticed anything other than the ground because my head was, unfortunately, always down. As a photographer, I now see the world differently, not because of my camera, but because of a conversation with a fellow photographer. He spoke of perspective and angles when capturing architectural photos. He said, "people always look down, you gotta look up, move your head around, just look up." From that point on, I've always asked myself to pay attention and take in the world around me by stopping and exploring whatever moment piques my curiosity. Online sourcing - ask bakers all over the world thru social media. Watch YouTube videos (that's how I learned to braid challah). Try again but add a new spin (I make round focaccia that would make Italians toss me out of their kitchens). Hypothetically my baked goods are unique but there will always be someone else more curious than I. So we'll see what comes next.
