In the construction industry and as it relates to A/E consultancy services, it is important to assess all components that has major impact ( usually salaries and associated costs constitutes 60%~70%) on the cost structure, and always consider different approaches to produce the work differently in a more efficient way to reduce the same or increase the productivity with the same cost. Other costs could be reduced with the utilization of technology and outsourcing certain functions. It’s is important that you always think of enhancements, otherwise costs will keep increasing without you really noticing the reasons and the real impacts.

It’s important for the proposal team to put the right figures in the boxes. Don’t blame the project team if the proposal team has already blundered the costing part. I often come across the project team telling later that our proposal team didn’t take it in account during bidding and we have to accommodate extra costs in our scope now.
