For most translation buyers, volumes and language pairs won't necessarily be a meaningful measure. Insist more on how your experience will help them streamline or design new more efficient workflows (and at that point, a before vs after comparison helps). It is more about ease/accessibility of content and scalability. That's where an experienced linguist or language tech specialist will shine. Machines and automated systems can already take care of measuring volumes and create spreadsheets... unless you're preparing a long Death-by-PowerPoint session, a few chosen examples of non-language related impact on customer's working methods will be perceived as a lot more relatable than figures

Demonstrating your value involves quantifying and recording the impact you've made on your employer's or clients' projects and objectives. This may encompass tracking metrics such as the volume of words, pages, or documents translated, your delivery speed, feedback and revisions received, cost and time savings achieved, enhancements in text accuracy or readability, contributions to content localization or cultural adaptation, and improvements in end-user or customer satisfaction and loyalty. Employing tools like spreadsheets, dashboards, or portfolios allows for the organized presentation of this data, showcasing your contributions effectively.

From my personal experience I would say: accountability, sticking to deadlines, and well formatted translation has always brought me many clients. They were also very happy when I used mutually accepted software, and was genuine about subject I had knowledge, and understanding of before I accepted any work. A lot of my assignments required particular paragraph length and word count. I have always left myself enough time to go over my translation draft before I submitted the final version. Regardless of money involved, I have never taken on too many projects if there was a slightest chance of any hiccups. My work motto was: “Less is more” since I do not provide half-baked jobs.

This is not particularly related to translation. You will find the "get curious all your life" in any coaching or how-to-get-your-dearm-promotion article. That doesn't mean it's less true, but nothing particular to the translation industry there. As Robin highlighted though, may the participation to professional associations is quite relevant to our industry (more than most). And yes, always stay curious and learn. Every day. Take every opportunity.
