What are the most effective ways to communicate QA results and findings to stakeholders in Agile projects?

Sometimes the word bug, issue, or problem can cause anxiety and stress in and outside of the team. I've learned from our QA lead to use the term "observations"...as that is simply all they are!

Having realtime dashboards would help, for instance communicating Nightly Regression Test Results via a dashboard along with email notifications to team Adding contextual information along with Test Results like the Environment, Build Version, Configuration details if any Any action expected from stakeholders need to be called our clearly Test Results play a key role in making release decisions so need to be clear and accurate Stakeholders can range from Dev, Product, Test to Project\Program teams and Support etc.. so keep everyone in mind

1) Avoid unnecessary Jargons 2) Reduce technical terms 3) Keep it simple 4) Use a language that could be understood by everyone

In my experience,we have to provide the steps to replicate the issue such as by providing the observations. 1.What is the input provided? 2.What is the actual result and expected result achieved with a sample record. 3.Nice to provide the root cause after an clear RCA for the deviation occurred ,such as logical issue,data issue,requirement correction.

The effective way to communicate QA findings in a dynamic manner within an agile cycle is through a robust tool like Jira. This involves: - Describe the error by providing simple description of the steps to reproduce the issue, including the expected result and the actual result. - Take screenshots to pinpoint and visually convey the identified error. This comprehensive approach utilizing Jira ensures a streamlined and thorough communication process between QA teams and stakeholders in an agile development cycle.

- Sharing the QA results with proper documentation/ screenshots as early as possible to DEV team once the observation is reproduced consistently. - Share the steps to reproduce the issue clearly from logging to the application to getting the issue. - Share the Test Data , Test environment, Application version, Any prerequisite details completely. - Share the video recording if possible along with the steps. - Set up a quick meeting to explain the observation/ bug with the DEV team.

I believe the creating heavy spreadsheets or colourful ppts are non effective utilisation of productive work; Most of the tools which which supports agile development has runtime dashboards; we must make sure every member of scrum team or kanban team updates their tasks and statues and the work is done religiously. All stakeholders can login and view live reports. Example, Using Jira dashboards, we have configure all types of agile and QA metrics required and updates are refreshed every at the frequency we configure. Only thing needed here is work discipline.

If you have "development teams" and "QA teams" consider assigning the QA members to specific teams so they can work with developers throughout the development lifecycle. As they start to see themselves as part of the team, they will being to share QA their observations and results early and often.

We make use of a separate Slack Channel for bug reporting in order to avoid creating multiple tickets for the same issue and to make searching for existing bug tickets easier. Aside from that, it also shows visible progress of the QA process and makes it easier for other stakeholders without access to the bug-tracking software to see the QA results and findings.

Sharing daily QA reports can be simple as you post it into Slack channel/any comm platforms you use. Most engineers or even your scrum master can be well informed by this Don't forget to put status tag on each of your tickets to track the progress

JIRA has a dashboard feature that can be set to automatically refresh every 15 minutes or so in order to show the most recent changes to widgets. Here, you could add reports and graphs in order to see trends and analyze testing results. Test Management tools such as QASE and Testim also have reporting mechanisms that show reports at the end of the test runs, providing a visual presentation of the findings during the testing phase.

This should be a common behavior for QAs. Get yourself used to attach screenshots and videos of reproduction. This is extremely helpful for engineers to identify bugs and fix it.

I know of a team that hosted a "Product Camp Day" where the product (a hardware unit and software system in this case) was set up in multiple stations. The stakeholders used the product as if they were customers while the developers, including QA, observed and took notes on ways the stakeholder wanted to use the system vs. how the system was set up. A lot of great insight was gained from a rather fun day of playing with the product!

If you aren't sure how to adapt QA results for different kinds of stakeholders, just ask them! Start by sharing the idea that everyone looks at team results with a different lens. A project sponsor looks at the big picture, a manager may look at the quality, a scrum master is considering the team health, etc. By giving stakeholders relevant and actionable information for their specific roles, you just might notice increased participation and suggestions on how to improve QA within the team and overall organization.
