In my experience, consider adding 10 percent to your overall estimated costs. It’s always better to be safe than sorry. Years ago, I traveled with a crew to write a story—at that time, I still worked as a journalist. Although we received a per diem for our meals, whoever calculated the per diem did not take in consideration the local prices. We had to pay out of pocket for most of our meals and then request a reimbursement.
