Gone are the days where we depend on central repo's, now the Git based VCS is gold standard. Choosing the git based VCS won't be a tough step for most of the teams as the tech stack they work mostly define the platform they would choose, for example Microsoft Tech: Azure Repos is the go-to for teams immersed in Microsoft technologies. Fintech & Start-ups: GitLab fits the bill for dynamic fintech and start-up vibes. Open Source Projects: GitHub shines as the collaborative hub for open-source endeavors. Bitbucket's Niche: Bitbucket, I've seen a EdTech major was using the SVN but there would be other industry using this too. There could be benefit to use in conjunction with JIRA ( bitbucket is from JIRA )

The biggest factor on choosing the branching model for your team is the level of seniority and maturity of the squad, often working with more entry level teams I saw that git-flow for it's level of control and revisions suits best, but if your squad is small and composed of most senior developers, Trunk-Based looks more appropriate.

More than just testing software code, which is a well-known and deployed practice, we need to also test infrastructure code (Iac). We should start by doing simple tests such as secure code linting, to more compreensive ones like deployment of the infra, and validation of expectations (e.g. Terratest)

Coding standards should be well documented and communicated to the team. Otherwise it will feel like trying to hit a moving target. Also, there is no one size fits all. Obviously there are standards that are best practices, like use meaningful names, avoid magic values/strings, and modularization, but more convention based standards like Pascal vs camel-case is based on team preference. The coding standards should be developed collaboratively with the team and documented where everyone can access them. Also it should definitely be a living document that gets periodically reviewed and enhanced.

One of DevOps pillars is communication and collaboration. It was initally created to bridge the gap between DEVlopers and OPerations. In the cloud, this continues to be true for concepts like NetDevOps (DevOps for networking). I find that, the choice of tooling is less important than, actually, correctly using the tool.

One tip that I have, is that you should avoid "over communication", that is, having a lot of redundant tools, like using gchat, discord and e-mail at the same time, this generates a burden on the team and you lose sense of what communications are more important than others

I have found that having a dev team channel where everyone can post questions or new ideas can really improve the team performance and create an environment of collaboration even in remote teams. Also having dedicated time to discuss blockers is really important. On my teams we have a daily optional meeting call office hours right after standup. It greatly improved the efficiency of our standup meetings. At standup when a dev said they were blocked, we did not coordinate a time to meet. We could say, "Let's discuss that in office hours." If there was nothing to discuss, no one attended.
