Scenario-based evaluations are superior to test questions. The evaluator has the opportunity to fully evaluate body language (which imparts significant meaning to words) and can identify how you truly communicate. Scenario-based tests more effectively evaluate cultural competency as well.

An often overlooked and incredibly important communication skill is disagreeing effectively. But what does that mean? Can this person contribute positively and respectfully without being argumentative and negative? Do they feel comfortable sharing contrary ideas? Are they willing to challenge you and push you to consider different perspectives? To evaluate this, look for points in the conversation where they disagree or bring up subjects with multiple valid approaches, ask theirs, share a different one, and ask them to discuss and share their thoughts. If they need prompting, ask them to explain their opinion or to try to convince you why they're right. Watch for positive attitude, tone, and body language throughout this exchange.
