In a US based market, when looking at price structures and valuing your skill/content, it’s helpful to be brutally honest and mindful of your experience, particularly for beginners. Never undervalue your ability or what you have to offer, but be humble and human in your approach. Research standard rates based on your experience and industry, clearly identify what you bring to the table, be confident and let your pricing reflect what your client can clearly see from your experience and what they can expect. Also, it doesn’t hurt to be overly communicative throughout the process - simple, yet effective- “tell em what you’re gonna teach em, teach em, then tell em what you taught em!”

As a general rule I have a minimum daily fee, which I will increase if the client / market allows, that I would be reluctant to go below because of what else I could be doing if I didn’t go. That said, it also depends on the perceived potential future work speaking at the event could open up. Each opportunity is looked at on a case by case basis.

I don't agree with the need to compare myself. I need to ensure I am affordable yes. But I know I deliver something unique and special for my clients. I know no one else can bring what I bring. Knowing your value is so important. To a degree it doesn't matter what your "competitors" are doing. Often I find clients respect that.

Market based pricing is essential to know the market at that particular time. I would ask myself, how do I stand out to make an impact that is so compelling to have the audience self reflecting, learning and thinking differently by the time they leave our time together. How would you set yourself apart, have past participants given reviews that others can read and word of mouth then that is your market based price? You have to love what you do and then others can feel it from you as you speak.

I prefer goal based pricing, because coaching is experience and skill based business. There is no guidebook or law about pricing. If i can help someone to achieve something in 10 months which i did in 10 years. I am saving his 10 years, time is priceless. So You can charge anything for your experience.

In my experience, it’s always best to understand what you’re comfortable asking for. Without that, any number is arbitrary. After that, it’s all based on market. So while you might be comfortable saying you charge 7 apples, the market you’re dealing with might be used to paying 4-5 apples for your type of fee. So there’s a song and dance but I think it’s always best practice to figure out what number you’re comfortable sharing, get that fee consistently, and the more you speak, the more people you get exposed to. Then you’ll find a comfortable middle ground.

I prefer goal-based pricing but would flip it. To me it is based on the clients goals, audience, and business structure. I used to put my prices out for clients but was told by an amazing mentor that it is better to hear what is needed and to help the client create the experience they are looking for with their event energy and goals. Now I match my pricing structure to that. It has changed my experience with speaking engagements completely, plus my clients feel like they are getting a customized package.

I typically start each year out determining how much I intend to bring in from my speaking engagements. This helps me price the engagements, but also helps me to gauge how many pro bono or lower priced engagements I am able to handle while still maintaining trajectory towards my overall goal. This external driver also helps to lessen the front-end negotiating load when new opportunities arise because I know where I must get to and how much negotiating wiggle room I have to get there. Look at your expectations of what you want to earn for the day(s) that you would be investing in the preliminary meetings, preparation, delivery and travel. Have a range in your mind. 2. Study the organization and the event. The context. The profile of the audience. No. of people in the audience. Based on above points, you can get the range in the mind. 3. Look at similar level of speakers, and see what are the fees they charge. That gives you a range of pricing. 4. Your pricing can be the sweet spot between the above 3 ranges that you have discovered.
