In my opinion a clear cut set rules and a set timeline for daily reporting with a fool proof robust back up support makes it much more easier for remote teams to achieve their goals. It has to be a good understanding between the teams of remote offices and their superiors sitting else where with full timely support and motivation which works wonder in moving ahead on daily basis and helps achieve success.

I've found that informal communication is the best way to show, not tell, how the company lives its values. While manager training and professional development often focus on effective formal communication, it's important to also to coach managers on professional, informal communication practices. Because the bulk of professional development budgets are earmarked for leadership, ICs have to learn these "soft skills" through osmosis. Managers are the conduit for modeling professional-yet-informal comms for ICs.
