Although there are new ways games can be made immersive like VR & motion controlled, but all or most players owning these systems is not possible, consoles like PlayStation, Xbox & Nintendo systems along with PC are going to stay forever with new adaptations and improvements and game developers should target building games for these primarily because these are not going to move!

I'm not sure if modern gamer want to physically move around during the game play or not. But a stand still moving platform in virtually game would increase the emergence elements of the game definitely, where they can fully control their movement, instead of have to press button to move.

here is a great emerging technology: In game track. Anything to track your player behavior and change gameplay accordingly in game, when a session is live would be the breaking point. Some game economies do this. Eat venture, mobile game, change food and drink prices depending on your spending, also if you are to invest heavily on one side, game tends to send you customers for the other side, therefore you are to complete all upgrades and stay in game before the next level.
