I think there is no black-or-white answer here, all my team is 100% remote, all the time. The challenges are different for each individual. I think not everybody adapts equally to a remote work environments, some will thrive and others won't. For those that struggle, I believe the biggest challenge for the leader to deal with is disengagement and as a consequence of that, lack of accountability.

Remote working came to stay. Whether we like it or not, it’s the new way of working. Although it can be a facilitator of several things, it makes it harder for the things that rely on proximity. There’s really no trick here. Online meetings must replicate in full the offline meetings (web camera on, etc.) and for those events where it’s just not possible to do it this way, push it for a face-to-face meeting (that’s why the “office day” is important).

Respecto a la falta de alineación, en mi experiencia depende más de una falta de comunicación que de la circunstancia de trabajar en remoto, si los empleados tienen claros sus objetivos, su contribución, el sentido de lo que hacen y la interdependencia y necesidad de su tarea y responsabilidad, respecto al logro común, no habrá problemas de alineación independientemente de si trabajan en remoto o no.

The challenges are really no different than for in-office teams, but more difficult to meet. Crafting a clear problem statement (make sure it isn't a solution statement), discussing the different approaches and pros and cons of each, deciding when you have enough information, and then stepping up to make the decision are all the same. But in remote work, it's harder for people to appreciate all the nuances and angles to a problem, so more time must be taken to educate people, and you also have to make sure that quieter people speak, which is more of a challenge than in person. But the biggest challenge in remote work is to make sure that people are concentrating on the issue at hand. It's way too easy to get distracted at home.

Las barreras de comunicación ocurren porque no existe voluntad de clarificar, estamos en la era de la comunicación, tenemos más medios que nunca para hacer saber a nuestro interlocutor a tiempo lo que necesitamos o esperamos, hay herramientas de sobra para corregir malentendidos rápidamente, puede ser el desconocimiento de las reglas de la comunicación virtual lo que provoque esas barreras o lagunas en la comunicación, ahora mismo podemos comunicarnos con gente de otras lenguas utilizando traductores. La carencia de comunicación no verbal se sustituye con las reglas de la comunicación virtual y la utilización de la voz. En definitiva, existe un nuevo lenguaje derivado de la tecnología que hay que dominar para proporcionar matices.

Being remote, you miss the "water-cooler/meet in the hall" talk. You have to work diligently to include the small talk, don't always have an agenda, and make time for brainstorming. Too many leaders move from meeting to meeting, forgetting that sometimes small conversations can have as big of an impact on the person, their confidence, and the assumptions they make when they feel disconnected. Prioritize building connections and fostering a supportive environment, even from a distance. I spent my entire corporate career as a remote leader - at least once a week, I would Facetime with each person on my team, and we would work independently and chat back and forth as if we were in the office next door, and we all looked forward to the time.

A veces estás rodeado de gente y te encuentras completamente aislado, solo e incomunicado, si se utilizan bien las herramientas de comunicación que nos proporciona la tecnología se puede conseguir la sensación de estar acompa?ado y de acompa?ar, aunque estemos teletrabajando, antiguamente con el trabajo presencial el control era más visual, te estaban viendo en tu puesto de trabajo aunque no se comunicaran contigo; sin embargo, ahora, la sensación de control sobre los compa?eros o subordinados que se ejercía antiguamente con la presencia, ha desaparecido, lo que obliga a los mandos de un estilo determinado a reciclarse aceptando la no presencialidad como parte del dise?o de los puestos de trabajo.
