1 Capacity and performance

One of the main challenges of maintaining a core network is ensuring that it has enough capacity and performance to handle the increasing traffic and data volume. As more devices, applications, and users access the network, the core network needs to be able to support them without compromising the quality of service, latency, or availability. To address this challenge, you need to monitor your network performance regularly, identify and resolve any bottlenecks or congestion, and plan for future growth and expansion. You can also use technologies such as core network virtualization, which allows you to create multiple logical networks on a single physical infrastructure, to increase your network flexibility and efficiency.

For 4G/5G signaling networks, it is critical to monitor the KPIs for both transactions per second (TPS) and subscriber sessions to ensure they do not approach or exceed the supported limits of the system. Software releases incorporating new features and/or updates to third party software packages may require additional CPU cycles and/or memory which can impact system capacity. Horizontal scaling (addition of VMs or pods) is usually the simplest and preferred way to add capacity if additional compute resources are available. Vertical scaling is often realized when server hardware is replaced by newer servers with more cores, more memory and better per-core performance.

Managing the network traffic is key, define the scope and type of network structure in place. The network roadmap with specification, well structured and documented. Every single device connected is managed and directed to its resources. Also implementing the road balancing, scalability management. Have well trained staff team that manage the network.
