Here's my top tips for online learning: Address your learning objectives, what do you want to get out of the session and why? Turn your camera on, interact and ask questions. Be present and mindful, get rid of distractions, and take notes. Just because something is online doesn't mean it's any less valuable than an in-person training session. We are so lucky to have access to so much information. With the power of technology, we have the ability to interact with experts from around the world. No longer are we limited to experts within our geological area. Embrace online learning!

Traditional learning environments can benefit from knowledge and experience available to online learning, and vice-versa. As more and more people become accustomed to what they can expect from an online/remote course, it becomes easier to think of any course as a potential hybrid opportunity. Maybe an in-person class meets virtually with a visiting expert, making the sharing of ideas across distance even easier. Students in online courses who live close to each other can find ways to work together in-person, and instructors can design opportunities and set incentives for students to take advantage of that when they can. Online/remote learning is not the opposite of in-person learning; they can and should complement each other when possible.

Online learning is a great option to increase accessibility for students. For instance, many physical learning environments are not ADA accessible and even if they are, can still pose significant barriers to students with disabilities. Remote learning allows for engagement from locations that suit individuals' learning style. Tools like closed captioning and recorded class sessions can help students with different learning needs to engage with the material in a way that suits them best. It also lowers barriers for students who want to attend a school but are geographically far away. It may help to save on the cost of living as well as to stay in physical proximity to friends and family while still attaining their desired education.
