What are the limitations of current AI programming languages?

The lack of standardization among AI programming languages often reminds me of having a toolbox where every tool is for a different type of bolt. It's challenging, especially when transitioning between projects. I recall working on a project where the ideal machine learning library was in Scala, while our codebase was in Python. The absence of a common standard meant extra hours translating code or finding workarounds. This fragmentation often leads to redundant efforts, as developers try to bridge languages rather than focusing on innovation. A unified framework or increased interoperability is essential to streamline the process and fuel collaborative innovation in the AI landscape.

Lack of standardisation is an issue which creates more learning curve. A good example could be Keras , Tensorflow and PyTorch all have/had different way to build a modl. Though Keras was a wrapper over tensorflow , changes to tensorflow version made me suffer (From my personal experience switching to tf1.0 from 0.x) there were many syntax changes which were tricky to accommodate on first glance and required some rework over old set of codes!

Lack of standardization can be a nightmare to builders, with continuously evolving language programs that are overwhelming to keep up with. From a business standpoint, however, in any emerging industry, the learning process is necessary, even critical to ensure Best practices on the long run. Standardization & Interoperability are a result of best practices, the last stages of it. And we need first to test with multiple foundational models/languages to conclude the right solutions. It’s an inevitable learning process. In order to solve for standardization & interoperability we need to develop enough knowledge & skills first. These resources are extremely valuable at the moment, and will be our industry pioneers in the coming years!

We need a programming language specially designed to analyse and understand Natural Language (NL). C/C++ is a very good programming language, however one cannot do certain NL programming tasks, such as word reference when the referent word is not within the same sentence. If a software application is developed for off-line use, it cannot easily be ported for online use. We need compilers that can compile the same Natural Language Processing (NLP) project both for online and offline use, with a click of a button. A software application for off-line use can process online data irrespective how big and how diverse in content is this data, because it is rule based and can understand the meaning of every individual sentence.
