What library research tools are essential for conducting a literature review?

Some databases that I consult when doing my research include EBSCOhost, JSTOR, and Google Scholar. Using filters makes it easier to navigate through thousands of articles on your research topic. As a general rule, I would avoid publications later than 10 years, and place emphasis on consulting publications that are peer-reviewed. It is also wise to filter by using quotation marks, and words such as or, and, and/or, etc.

Students must open IEEE Xplore or Springer link etc and then keep downloading papers, book chapters, books and then use mendely software for better arrangements. Later on read paper and write side by side daily and regularly and after some time students will have great literature review with them.

I am old-school in that I first check the database for the "physical books" in the "physical library." I wander around this section, which often contains texts that form the foundations for more recent research investigations. Periodically, a book that is mentioned by many others will be missing, usually leading me to purchase it. Not everyone is willing to do this, thus preventing them from writing an authoritative paper. I then check more recent articles through the library's online search tools. The references contained in these articles provide me with additional potential resources; these contain references to even more. I find that following a trail of suitable articles (i.e., reference to reference) provides the best filtering.

I think Pubmed and Google scholar works best for Science. Now a days there are many AI tools one can use for searching research papers in his/her area like Scispace

Well, I do like to use the Medical Subject Headings from PubMed. They are especially useful for big searches in the literature.

While the citation management tools are useful, we have to be mindful that not always the information will be accurate or complete. For that reason, it is crucial to double-check the full reference list before submitting the document.

Zotero is a great citation management tool to use. Make sure to always check your citations, although Endnote, Mendeley and Zotero works great but sometimes for specific format and need of the the journal , you need to doublecheck the content and style.

I use Mendeley for this task. It's freeware and works with Word. However, since journal formats vary a lot, it's better always to double-check the citation format.

For sure not a conventional search, at least in academia, is to use Google or similar engines for drafting a paper or other academic type of document. Mendeley has an option to convert websites into citable format references. This type of adaptation may be useful, obviously, with some double-checking in the fonts.
