1 Threat landscape

One of the prime Important aspect , to start with is risk categorisation of asset and associated attacker profile (know yourself and know your enemy). Not easy, but holistic threat intelligence with risk management should be optimum. Critical infrastructure of a nation in a quickly erupting geopolitical turmoil might attract novel attacks, pushing entire cybersecurity plan to a breaking point. I see lack of holistic situational awareness and checklist based risk assessment. Extremely limited and out of context many times. Then this error multiplies in further OT cybersecurity plan.

One trend which I experienced is discussion on many standards and implement something from everything. OR quickly work towards evidence if customer tightens the noose. Other end of spectrum… security advisors taking standards too aggressively without common sense for applicability. Thus putting dev teams or implementers in never ending r&d loop. This makes standards a necessary devil for dev teams/ implementers.

Thoroughly check cloud deployment from supplier for compliance of security pillars (standards by cloud service provider) by respective service provider. These concept of shared responsibility by supplier puts complete onus of secure operations on supplier/ oem. Don’t be surprised to find world writable S3 bucket in prod.
