I appreciate all the emergency management standards. I emphasise on contextualising these standards with local laws and local resources. With the rising climate and urban extremes, and compliance to Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction(SFDRR), IPCC and SDGs , every country to city have their local plans standards with respect to expected hazards and emergencies . Adding values of International standards would make these local plans and standards much more effective and full proof of.

I contend that those references are great - all of them. However, I would offer that leaders should have a macro understanding of the problem(s) before opening any of the resource problems - mission analysis should always come first and must lead into Commanders Planning Guidance.

I’m also a big fan of FEMA courses as an educational resource. FEMA 100, 200, 700, 800 are great starting points for dealing with large scale situations where like minded responders work together to accomplish a wide scale task. This can only be accomplished if we are training similarly, communicating consistently and engaging each agency for effective prior planning and mock scenarios.

When I was first introduced to the ICS system, it seemed cumbersome. Since completing ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800, I have continued advancing my knowledge. In my past life I prefilled out some ICS forms that would not change such as hospital locations and all forms became part of regular trainings such as regular tabletop exercises and full-scale exercises. Now that I have a different role, I use ICS forms when we have large scale events. I also created a tactical worksheet for several potential emergencies, this was for initial IC so they could track specific items that could later be used for documentation.
