In my opinion, ' Pandas library is a very powerful tool for time series analysis (indeed). The best thing is that if you are a beginner then it is best for you. Basics are very simple and easy to use. It can handle 1d (series) and 2d (dataframe) data structures (time series data). It provides Time indexing, Time shifting and lagging, time zone handling and you can do rolling window operating (like aggregation function). Other features are data cleaning, handling missing values etc.'

This is constantly changing. Scikit Learn can be used as can Tensorflow. Statsmodels has good coverage of ARIMA. For univariate time series Prophet is used. Darts has a nice UI and a good range of models. TimeGPT is a new entry using transformer technology. New libraries are constantly appearing.

I have used scikit-learn for timeseries in two areas - 1) translate the tineseries problem to a supervised learning problem , create additional features and build a regression model. This is particularly useful if the traditional timeseries techniques and Prophet do not decompose seasonal and trend effects or there is no particular seasonality/trend in data due to sample size or business nature. 2) Developing an evaluation set and test should be done differently for timeseries models. I have used sklearn timeseries split module to prepare data for evaluation and test sets. There are 4-5 different approaches in it and should be considered based on your usecase.

Rather than looking at which packages are suitable, I believe a more systematic approach would be to consider different sides of the problem, be it univariate/multivariate, short-term/long-term forecast, or even $$ of development. In my experience, for univariate problems, traditional statistical methods, such as SARIMA and ETS tend to perform better for shorter-term forecasting, before being outperformed by LSTM for longer-term forecasts. At the end of the day, start with EDA. DL models tend to perform better with noisy, trended, and non-linear data, while the others are more appropriate for seasonal & low-variance data with linear relationships. Keeping this in mind helps to optimize development costs while achieving business outcomes.
