A network security audit is a systematic assessment of an organization's network infrastructure, systems, and processes to identify vulnerabilities, threats, and other security-related issues. First, it should start with a Risk assessment that can be divided as below- Identification of assets, threats, vulnerabilities, and risks. The likelihood and potential impact of identified risks. Prioritization of risks. According to risk assessment will be the next phase or any framework that defines assessment criteria.

2 Vulnerability Count

Another key metric for a network security audit is the number and severity of vulnerabilities that exist in your network. Vulnerabilities are flaws or weaknesses in your network's hardware, software, or configuration that can be exploited by attackers to compromise your network's confidentiality, integrity, or availability. A vulnerability count is a quantitative measure of how many vulnerabilities are detected in your network and how serious they are. When you scan a network, it will identify the actual number of vulnerabilities that exist in the network. Critical and high-severity vulnerabilities should be remediated first, as they pose the greatest risk to the organization. High-severity vulnerabilities are more likely to be exploited by attackers. By remediating these vulnerabilities first, organizations can reduce their risk of being compromised. It is essential to scan the network on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, depending on the organization's needs.

Threats are malicious actions or events that attempt to harm your network's assets, data, or operations. Incidents are events or situations that result from successful or attempted attacks on your network and cause a negative impact on your network's functionality, performance, or reputation. An incident response time is a measure of how long it takes for your network to detect, analyze, contain, eradicate, and recover from an incident. A short incident response time means that your network can minimize the damage and restore normal operations quickly. A long incident response time means that your network may suffer more losses and consequences from an incident.
