What are the key indicators of strong credibility in a speaker?

I feel we need to have self confidence to speak. To add to it you need to have relevant knowledge on the subject and also on the industry globally. Above all preparation is key. Even big leaders and orators prepare before they deliver.

I personally feel it's a mix of a few factors and not just one which includes subject knowledge of the matter or subject/topics being spoken or presented along with great confidence and clear articulation of the same.Its equally crucial to understand and gage the audience engagement and participation levels ensuring the delivery and impact is effective. However most important to always have a great speech, presentation or public speaking is knowing the matter in depth,ready for challenges or questions if it may come so and enough preparedness ahead of the same.

Undoubtedly, the story! And well if its coupled with data, then nothing like it. The moment you start with the speech, you set the context, introduce the characters and take the audience through highs and lows with anecdotes. Introduce a villain into your story, like pollution, if you are talking about climate change. Convince your audience with an impactful conclusion of the story, and tell them at the end, everything gonna be ok. And if it's not ok, then it's not the end of the story as well. This will leave your audience on a high note and they would want to listen to you more. That's the secret sauce for an incredible speaker.

When chosen as a speaker, most everyone will have initial credibility, but that will only get someone so far. The most important is to show that there's a reason the speaker was chosen- because they represent some expertise in the topic area.

After Ethos, it is Pathos. Pathos involves appealing to the audience's emotions, helping to create a connection and make the message more compelling. Confidence, Engagement, Passion, Persuasion, and Adaptability are the few key indicators.

Confidence in speech is conveyed through a steady pace, clear enunciation, and controlled body language (such as maintaining eye contact and using gestures appropriately). A credible speaker projects their voice effectively, commands attention without being domineering, and adapts their delivery to suit the audience and setting. Remaining composed when faced with challenges, questions, or differing opinions demonstrates confidence and reinforces credibility.

As a speaker most important confidence. Good communication with peoples. Good personality need to have it. Good mindset. Knowledge skills good.

After ethos and pathos, it is logos. Logos is the appeal to logic and reason. A speaker with strong logos uses evidence, data, and clear reasoning to persuade the audience. Data Research, Examples and case studies, Citations, Clarity, Organised ppt & Q&A responsiveness are key parameters that drive the logos and build credibility.

Authenticity is conveyed through sincerity in tone, avoiding scripted or overly rehearsed delivery, and showing genuine passion or concern for the topic. Transparency and Integrity: Being honest about limitations or uncertainties in knowledge, as well as acknowledging differing viewpoints, can enhance credibility by showing humility and openness. Consistency in Values: Aligning spoken beliefs and actions with personal or organizational values helps build trust with the audience.

In my opinion, authenticity is crucial for a speaker's credibility because it builds trust and connection with the audience. Genuine expression, consistent values, vulnerability, and transparent motives make the speaker relatable and trustworthy. This sincerity, coupled with natural body language and evident passion, ensures the audience perceives the speaker as reliable and credible.

Speaker must engage listeners by encouraging audience participation through questions, polls, or discussions fosters active engagement and reinforces key points. Using narratives or anecdotes to convey messages helps capture and maintain audience interest while providing memorable illustrations of key concepts. Adapting content to the audience's interests, concerns, or knowledge level enhances relevance and increases the likelihood of audience retention and understanding.

In my opinion, listener engagement is vital for a speaker's credibility. Engaging techniques like asking questions and encouraging participation keep the audience attentive and involved. This active involvement fosters connection and trust, making the speaker appear more knowledgeable and relatable, and ensures a more impactful and memorable presentation.

You can build credibility by also being an exceptional storyteller. Those who share compelling, relatable and authentic stories are more likely to leave a lasting impression and provide inspiration. Through sharing stories, a speaker can evoke emotions in their audience, which also increases the likelihood of the speaker resonating. This also builds trust and credibility. We don’t often remember much of a speaker’s commentary, however, what we DO remember is how they made us feel.

Talk about yourself, your interests, and why you’re qualified: One of the ways to establish credibility in your speech is to tell your audience why they should trust you to teach or inform them about a particular topic. Introduce yourself at the beginning and explain why you’re an authority on the given subject. You can offer examples of your past successes in the field, your educational background, and why you are personally invested in the topic. One more thing I would like to add is: He walks the talk. He applies what he talks about is a key indicator that he is authentic. And for real: He does not repeat the points over and over again just to talk, he should be definitely providing value.
