Without a doubt, innovation drives today's business culture. However, being successful at innovation requires that the culture is embedded in your organisation. Companies successful at innovation have a specific mindset and pattern for generating and implementing new ideas. As with anything of impact within a business, innovation requires leaders to be aligned with one another and have a shared appreciation for innovation principles, equipping the team with the right tools and resources to innovate.

Doing innovation is the task of thinking out of the box of unusual things. But bringing that innovation to action is a team with delegation of tasks while maintaining the confegerity requires strategic communications and delegation of the tasks to the team, to get the best outcome.

Vision and objectives are the compass that clearly shows the direction of actions that brings the expected results. It is the total sum of an organization's existence and influence. It is the dream that propels realities.

My company launched our first Innovation Tournament earlier this year. We just completed the idea generation and submission process for "season two." One of the most valuable lessons I learned from serving on the steering committee for both seasons is that effective communication is essential to innovation — as it is to every area of business. I'm not necessarily talking about the branding or exact words (while they're also important), but instead organizational communication — leadership endorsement and buy-in, middle manager flowdown, and a process for ideas to come back up through the ranks, not only for a point-in-time idea submission process. The sweet spot is when we can anticipate and address a customer's needs before they even realize those need exists.

Coming from a non-profit perspective it’s important to know who your audience is and have the ability to build a strategy that directly reflects and positively impacts this audience. The same can be said for a customer. It’s the only way to stay truly aligned to the mission or service. This helps with the storytelling aspect of your strategy as well. If you can paint the picture of your audience in an authentic way, you can build a strategy that not only feels aligned with a service you provide, but feels connected to who you are trying to reach.

It is crazy how different in one generation e.g. boombers from Zs. They value absolute different things. To choose what market to attend, it all start with aligning your values as a company and the values and sentiments of your target customer. Pick a sentiment you can improve with new products/services, start with the easiest "job-to-be-done" to achieve with your most reliable technology

I think this is a cheeky one. As most ideas never see light because of prototyping or experimentation. The article speaks perfect sense in terms of sharing the idea and finding supportive groups of expertise and people who share the belief in the strategy to make it happen.

Sharing & informal discussions with the different committees of your company (advisory, CoDir, scientific, etc.), often the brilliant idea is within reach for the decision-maker.

Include a wide range of perspectives when brainstorming, Every idea that is shared has value. A seemingly absurd idea may be the one that catalyzes the discussion that generates the strongest ideas. And don't limit involvement to lead staff. Involve all constituencies - such as janitorial staff, your biggest funder, someone from your target audience, and a colleague in a similar but different industry. Every voice has the potential to reveal a new opportunity or roadblock or helps you gain a deeper understanding of customer need or helps develop the content that is the most compelling.

An innovative strategy without experimentation is attempting to sail without a compass. It is easy to project what we think others should enjoy, but not what they truly desire. This is where testing comes into play. Prototyping can come in different forms and varies with industry. Below are a couple of examples: - With a new website or application, this can encompass usability tests and different UX designs/prototypes. - With consumer goods, customer preferences can be drawn out via focus groups or interviews. - With a new restaurant concept or food idea, a chef might consider testing new recipes with consumers or giving out free samples.

As I have worked in one of the Saudi vision 2030 pillars. I can assure that successful strategies usually are quantified and updated every month. As the world is experiencing constant and aggressive changes so should our understanding of our strategy implementation and scaling. A successful srategy execution mindset and application is crucial in achieving, updating or substituting a certain element of a goal or strategy.

Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the team. Encourage learning from both successes and failures to refine future innovation efforts. Establish a feedback loop for ongoing improvement.

Every innovation project is an investment projet, and it shoul be treated as one. So, financial and value projections should be updated to take business decision on: in what project to invest the money to get the best business return This topic is too big to go though details, I just recommend to follow a formal innovation method to MANAGE innovation execution... e.g. stage-gate, agile innovation, etc. I found everybody wants to innovate, nobody wants to manage innovation, and I would say: Lack of innovation management could be the most important reason to fail on innovation

Innovation strategy implies innovation, right? So try to create something memorable, outstanding, out of the box, not just something new!

In my experience, innovation is about excellence developing effective solutions, approaching challenges as opportunities for improvement, and viewing failures as learning experiences. The ability to identify problems, develop creative solutions, and remain resilient in the face of failure sets innovators apart as leaders in innovation and change.

Ask for feedback. Incorporate what worked well and what didn't in your action plan to follow-up the initial innovation strategy. Gain insights from internal and external actors, team members and customers alike provide valuable insights with different perspectives.

Garnering customer feedback is a pivotal component to continuously iterating and improving. This can include creating surveys and forums for feedback. Honesty is critical here, to avoid throwing good money after bad. Retired American aerospace engineer, Burt Rutan, stated, “Testing leads to failure, and failure leads to understanding.” Even if the results of testing do not back up the original strategy, the insights garnered will be invaluable. One look at the history of recent failures shows us the cost of neglecting this vital step: Iridium, Google Glass, and HP Touchpad are some of the few that come to mind. Instead, by starting early and continuously iterating, a culture of learning and development can be fostered.

It’s important to reflect on what is working well and what isn’t. You can assess the performance and impact based off the results and documenting where you are before you implement your strategy then after to determine what areas need improvement.

A successful innovation strategy, in my view, is built on three pillars: diverse perspectives, a culture that embraces trial and error, and strategic focus. For example, in my role, we encouraged team members from various backgrounds to brainstorm, which led to a groundbreaking project that wouldn't have emerged from a homogenous group. Embracing experimentation meant learning from missteps, a process that often sparked unexpected innovations. And by aligning these efforts with our core mission, each creative endeavor directly fueled our overarching goals, making innovation not just exciting but also impactful.

Innovation is used interchangeably with iteration. Most things are not innovative as they do not achieve use of resources in a way that was not yet used while sustaining or reducing consumption of resources. Making a new thing is not innovation. In a modern society innovation is strongly influenced by ideology. What you create either supports or creates an ideology to follow or it is ignored. Therefore, the question should start with "DO we actually want to innovate, in which case we must start from mapping the ecosystem, or we want to fuel an ideology, in which case we do market discovery to see what cultural shifts are taking place which we can identify with?"
