An operational or safety fault in an automated system will likely be a flaw from the mechanical or from the digital components. The first due to material, design, or maintenance, and the second due to the software, programing, and even hacking. Those behind preventing and/or correcting it, reviewing lessons learned, implementing best practices, continuous improvement process, supported by ML and AI, will still be humans. And among them, drilling crews trained in new skills (i.e. IIoT, SCADA, OT). In any case, implementing drilling automated systems will increase the firewall, hence the safety of the crew, equipment, and environment, as well as optimize performance.
