Willingness to accept a hybrid solution. We will always need hardware but cloud is how things get done more times than not. Drives fail, backplanes fail. So then you end up creating your own cloud setup and still have the liabilities of the hardware setup. You can even do a 2 location dr setup but in the end is it really what you want to focus on? Automation of infra is where it is at wherever you are.

Automation is where it is at. Terraform ansible, other proprietary cloud automations. They all should be used. As for app stack, nginx and rails are still king in my world even though we try to investigate other tech. Lots of folks are python focused. I am still stuck on shell scripts. Simple stuff. But it works.

Work with others on this unless you are already in a data center (which means you are working with others) Cloud VPN work is important but as time goes by I am seeing less and less use for totally isolated networks. Harden and secure your app, use security groups etc. unless you have a regulatory reason, going beyond that will cause you headaches with little gain
