What are the essential skills for a visual designer's portfolio?

Keep in mind that everything that you present/ put into your design should have a reason. The portfolio should be based on a proper style guide , etc to maintain consistency.

Key principles include size and scale, color contrast, typography, whitespace, alignment, and the layout of elements. A strong visual hierarchy enhances communication and user experience in various design disciplines.

You know, in the design, visual hierarchy is like a roadmap—showcasing what's important. Always try to highlight how you use things like size, color, spacing, alignment and other things to make designs both good-looking design and easy to use. And also, it's very important to show how your designs looks and behave on different devices and screens.

Typography is critical. If you can't display a command of type in any piece of communication, I'm not hiring you for any visual design position. Beyond knowing the software it’s vital to have strong Art and Animation Direction skills. Great animation skills don’t make up for bad design skills. When it comes down to adding Motion to your web portfolio, most of the times less is more. You can use Lottie files as a loading screen, a subtitle animated element that moves as you scroll or gifs for thumbnails.

This is not much needed in the begineers stage. But yes, when you add interactive design elements in your design or portfolio its will take it to the next level. But if you are begineers then try to animate things in above given software but give more focus on your ux and other processes as discussed in the first section.

It's also about working smoothly with different team members like designers, developers, and project managers. But that's not too easy guys?? so first try to listen and be collaborative. You have to built this ability, when you do that, you will be easily iterate your design as per the feedback effectively and easily.
