One emerging trend at the United Nations is the use of simulation exercises for capacity building (another way of saying upskilling). This isn’t an emerging trend in other industries but is in the UN system. Simulation-exercise based trainings give people great opportunities to practice the top skills they need to complete their highest priority tasks. For example, my facilitation team is running workshop for heads of UN Women country offices with a simulation of a humanitarian emergency. Participant will be put in a meeting simulation where they have to negotiate to be included in a trip to measure the number of people with humanitarian needs.
