These convenings are important. An addition or embellishment that has been powerfully effective in my experience is to have an intentionally less formal element. I’m a great believer in sharing meals for example. Everything from one to one lunches to potlucks for the group. The best connections are often made in informal settings.

En un mundo como el que vivimos, donde el éxito se mide en torno a cuestiones como el dinero o cosas materiales, y donde, en tal sentido, suele valorarse la productividad, la rapidez-inmediatez, donde se realza lo jóven como sinónimo de bello, las personas mayores se llevan la peor parte, son estereotipadas como aburridas, solitarias, improductivas, lentas, y otra serie de cuestiones por el estilo. Para romper con estas creencias, necesitamos darles la oportunidad y mostrar que lejos de lo que se cree, las personas mayores pueden aportar MUCHíSIMO talento, experiencias, sabiduría, paciencia, análisis crítico. En tal sentido, algunas empresas están empezando a buscar proactivamente específicamente a personas mayores para sumar a sus equipos.

A mi entender, todos los actores de una comunidad, sin importar la edad, deben mostrar activamente inclusión y respeto hacia todas las generaciones. Participar en actividades que mezclen a jóvenes y mayores, y fomentar la colaboración entre ellos, ayuda a crear un ambiente de comprensión mutua. Los líderes aquí son clave.
