Where most fall short is not testing to failure. Load testing should do more than prove you can get to an arbitrary point of usage. Load testing should inform you of the thresholds you need to monitor for to take corrective action. That knowledge only happens when you know those limits and can design for them. You won't always know a pattern or a threat or an intrusion - but you can design for a threshold and monitor for that threshold regardless of the cause.

Of course you should design realistic test scenarios, but is that where your platform will break, not likely. Most people test normal use patterns, how the app is supposed to work to make sure the user is capable of accomplishing the task at hand, so in most cases the realistic scenarios get tested. Test to break the app, do something not intuitive, test what a hacker would do - i.e. not follow the logical form of things. Hit a back button when you are not supposed to, cut and paste into fields arbitrarily. hit refresh 5 times just because. Does that break your application? Just because it's not a likely behaviour, doesn't mean your users won't do it, and hackers certainly will.

We live in the time of AI, you can not only analyze the results you can take the results and the inputs to the test and ask AI to detail the differences, what are anomalies over a set of tests? Were there factors in the test data that explain those differences - if not what was the cause. We have new ways of asking for results to be analysed we need to do what we have in the past, and then utilize the new tools at our disposal to find the questions we didn't know to look for.
