Es vital entender que la tarea principal es la de transmitir el mensaje al idioma y a la cultura de destino. Traducimos ideas, mensajes, conceptos y unidades de sentido. No traducimos palabras aisladas sin contexto como un diccionario. Conectamos culturas, no solo idiomas. Además de lo anterior, lo cual implica conocer tanto la cultura de origen como la de destino, muy seguido (casi siempre) uno debe hacer más que solo traducir. El formato del contenido también suele estar a cargo del traductor. Es por eso que se debe saber cómo usar varias herramientas informáticas para entregarle al cliente un producto final de alta calidad en el formato adecuado.

Yo creo que la mejor forma de lidiar con textos complicados es tener tiempo para leer e investigar. En este siglo, como el tiempo es escaso y no siempre se puede investigar media tarde antes de traducir , recomiendo leer de asuntos contemporáneos y capacitarse en cualquier cosa en el tiempo libre. Hay que desafiar nuestros cerebros , sobre todo si somos profesionales freelance , ya que a veces se nos concentra todo el trabajo en una semana y después tenemos un par de días/semanas libres. Está bien tener tiempo de ocio, pero para obtener más satisfacción laboral hay que aprender algo todos los días.

Yo creo que un traductor ademas de lo obvio que es saber los idiomas, tener curiosidad y conocimientos y cuidar el detalle debe de tener la capacidad para entender los matices en la lengua de origen y tener el arte de trasladarlos a la lengua de destino. Y este arte es el que hace que la tecnología que es una herramienta no sea suficiente. Muchas veces no hay que dominar tanto la lengua de origen como la de destino, que es la lengua materna. En mi experiencia como profesora de traduccion me ha pasado que alumnos espa?oles, que es mi lengua materna, que habían estudiado en el extranjero, no dominaban suficientemente el espa?ol.

Cuando en esta profesión se precisa de unos conocimientos altos en toda las esferas de la vida para poder realizar un trabajo de interpretación de calidad. Esto es importante en dos sentidos: el primero, es no asumir que una aplicación o IA realizará el trabajo. Es imperante ir al detalle para transmitir el mensaje a cabalidad. El segundo es que ese aporte humano enriquece en todos los casos la traducción, haciéndola cercana. La traducción no será jamás un oficio reemplazable por la tecnología, sino que una debe ir de la mano de la otra para aportar el mayor valor posible.
