As an internal consultant, it is your responsibility to act as a trusted partner and a catalyst for change within your organization. You must understand the goals, needs, and challenges of your internal clients and offer solutions that are aligned with the overall strategy and vision of the company. Additionally, effective communication, managing expectations, and delivering results are essential skills. Typical responsibilities of an internal consultant consist of conducting research and analysis to identify issues and opportunities, developing proposals and recommendations based on best practices and data, facilitating workshops and meetings to gather feedback and input, leading or supporting the implementation and evaluation of projects and initiatives, providing coaching and training to staff and managers, as well as building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across the organization.

As an independent consultant I found this conversation interesting. Internal consultants have actually more in-depth knowledge and details about the company they are working and that makes their strategies and planning part integrated for the internal problems they see in their day to day work observation. Observation is key in this field of work and for the benefits of the company's growth that is recommended to have an internal consultant along with the independent consultant. That way their strategies become more solid and the impact is also more visible.

El consultor interno debe poder todos los conocimientos y habilidades necesarias para poder identificar cualquier problema organizacional y financiero, de tal manera que sirva como un faro, es decir, identifica, evita, previene y contiene. Por lo general este tiene a enfocarse más en el área financiera, por lógicas razones, sin embargo debería también de involucrarse en el área de operaciones. De esta manera tendrá una visión 360 y podrá brindar la información necesaria para la toma de desiciones.

Working as an internal consultant can offer several benefits, such as having a greater understanding of the organization and its culture, more opportunities to learn and grow, autonomy and ownership over your work, more impact and visibility within the organization, and greater stability and security than external consultants. However, there are also some challenges that come with this job, such as resistance from some internal clients or colleagues, needing to balance multiple demands and priorities, dealing with conflicts of interest or politics, coping with limited resources or support, and maintaining credibility and objectivity.

Maintain a level of currency and knowledge to provide accurate reliable opinions on industry work practices and regulatory interpretations for management or customers. Raise awareness on upcoming rule or regulation changes or proposed changes to prevent unexpected budget changes and operating procedures. Also, maintain a level of perspectives to assist with providing a safe work environment with work practices and training to ensure safety and compliance for employees and management.
