A cardiac physiologist typically works in a hospital or clinic, under the direction of a cardiologist or cardiac surgeon. Their job is to use special equipment and techniques to measure and monitor the function and health of the heart and blood vessels. This may include performing electrocardiograms (ECGs) to record electrical activity, conducting echocardiograms (ECHO) to create images of the heart using sound waves, carrying out exercise stress tests to assess how the heart responds to physical activity, fitting and analyzing cardiac monitors such as Holter devices or implantable loop recorders, implanting and checking pacemakers and defibrillators to regulate heart rate and prevent arrhythmias, assisting with cardiac catheterization and angiography to examine and treat the blood vessels, and providing education and support to patients and their families before and after the procedures.

To become a cardiac physiologist, you need to have a combination of academic and practical skills. You should possess a bachelor's degree in cardiac physiology, biomedical science, or a related field. Additionally, you must complete a postgraduate diploma or a master's degree in clinical physiology, with a specialization in cardiology. You also need to register with the Society for Cardiological Science and Technology (SCST) and the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP) in the UK, or the equivalent bodies in other countries.

Besides the formal education, you need to have certain essential skills to excel as a cardiac physiologist.
