What do you do if you're a web developer facing tight deadlines?

Here's what I do. First of all I make sure that I work in a balanced way. Which means..I divide my work in parts and complete them one by one. This way I won't have a lot of work to do when the deadline is approaching. If at all a situation occurrs where I have multiple projects and all their deadlines are just around the corner, I priorities the most important ones and inform others that their project will be delayed, while also explaining the cause and taking responsibility.

Communication is vital when deadlines are tight. Be honest about the work you can and, more importantly, cannot do in the time available. Be clear when communicating scope and deliverables. If anything like code testing or factoring has to suffer to meet a goal, get leadership buy-in or alignment that those areas will be revisited if at all possible or that everybody accepts the risk of not doing a task. Do not be afraid to ask for help or raise the flag that a deadline is in danger if you've done your best work but you see the deliverable may not be ready in time.

Respectfully ask questions to see if the deadlines really are tight? What is the driver for this date? What is the real impact if the date is missed? What dependencies are time-bound and depend on this task? Sometimes asking the right questions realigns the work in such a way that perceived deadlines can be reset to allow for adequate time for each task by realigning the due dates to the tasks at hand.
