In undergrad, my professor said that getting a CS degree was not about mastering programming languages, because by graduation they'd be outdated. We needed to 'learn how to learn', starting with understanding CS principles and how and why things work. The rest is just syntax. It's true for many coding languages — they accomplish the same things, just with different wording and syntax. Learn one and it's easier to learn the next. But then there are major shifts in technology that will change your whole 'how and why' perspective. That's where knowing how to learn comes in. Everyone learns differently — by reading, listening, doing, etc. Find out your best method early, because as a developer you'll spend the rest of your career applying it.
