Quite often there will be account review meetings for larger preferred supplier agreements where both sides provide feedback on the status of the relationship. For more informal relationships then raising the concern directly with the account manager is the first action. If things are not acted upon then escalate. The relationship needs to work for both sides. Quite often a recruiter may be struggling for a reason. This could be market conditions/employment brand/specificity of the role requirement etc.

We always offer up references. I would be concerned if, as a new relationship, that was not part of the onboarding of a new recruiting firm. The other factor in my opinion, is how willing the recruiting firm is to travel to your place of business. So much about what makes people successful within the culture of an organization can’t be gleaned in a conversation. Is it loud or quiet, how do people engage with each other, where will they sit and what is the team around them like….the more we “feel” the environment, the better the choice of shortlist finalists. I’ve always said one of my favorite things to do is walk with the leader around the organization. You learn so much by what people aren’t saying, but how they react.
