I was a tech professional as well as a trainer. Once I was a Ph.D. and MCSE and Microsoft Certified Trainer. I was never coached or mentored but I should have sought coaching or mentoring. Coaches do not have to be in the profession, however, mentors do. Looking back, I should have gone to a career counselor to see what was out there. in 1995 the industry was so new that I would have benefitted. I did look to mentors and had many informational interviews to find out if I wanted to do what they had done. Since I was certified in my field, I should have sought someone certified in the career counseling field. I would highly recommend certification or years of experience.

Counselling could be better for that. Having said that there are times when the catharsis is of great function to reaching a goal. But it is useful to know that you must exercise awareness if you start to spiral into negative narration, just because you’re missing the opportunity for your coach to give you stepping stones to get out of those uncomfortable feelings towards a more fulfilling perspective!
