I will focus on being clear, specific and constructive. Will highlight both strengths and areas for improvement. When receiving feedback, i will approach it with an open mind by viewing it as an opportunity to grow. It is helpful to ask clarifying questions and apply the feedback in my work. i will look into building a supportive environment and make the feedback exchanges easier and more productive.

We all need to seek clarity of our communications. I frequently enlist others to listen to me and provide advice. I try to listen to myself after a recorded meeting. A lot of the times, I hear my passion for the subjects and my ability to response clearly, but was giving that person enough time. Getting clarity means that you may have to hear things that make think about how you interact and what you might think is negative. It's not, just taking that action is more than some and it's start to knowing what to fix and growing more.

It also keeps us on our toes - if we don’t use skills we lose skills. It’s vital to not only stay up to date but to put in to practice what we know with cybersecurity tabletop exercises and walkthroughs.

I think this is an important point here to reflect and think about how you gave that feedback and how it was received so that you can improve. For those giving feedback it's important to try to remove bias, and be aware of this first. There's geographical bias, where those closer to you and who you see more of due to location and who might be favoured over those in locations further afield.

The journey is more important than the destination. Therefore, embrace change and reflection. Lessons learned is a key practice of all military so they can fight yesterday's war tomorrow. In an Agile/Lean paradigm, you always have a regular period of reflection and analysis.

After a feedback session, I take time to process it. It's like reviewing a game film (feedback session) to see where I can improve my defense (cybersecurity practices). I consider the feedback received (analyze the plays) and see how I can adjust my approach (improve my game). But I also reflect on how I deliver feedback (my coaching style). As cybersecurity is fast evolving there is a lot to learn and adapt ways of working. Dare to voice your concern, any input or feedback might be important. Listen to the feedback given. It's not because you were the champion or expert on that matter yesterday that today you still know it all. Any tiny bit of feedback might broaden your horizon and let you see a tiny aspect that you were not aware of. Embrace feedback, it's the most efficient, low-cost learning aid. Following a coarse to learn to better handle this kind of soft-skill is always useful if you feel to uncertain.

I think that people do think about how to give constructive feedback. Take the time to think what you are going to say as honestly words matter. Don't write it down and read from it as it will feel off. Tell it from your heart and be very open and clear. Remember great feedback often comes back in spades.

If you are a manager, ensure that concrete feedback is given on things to improve and work on and also mention things that are positive or that the individual is doing very well. Ensure that there is enough time to give and receive feedback too. Everyone does not respond to feedback in the same way so it will also take some time to process etc. Additionally, don’t wait to give feedback at one time (Ex. Annual performance review) as a one time thing. That is always very bad as feedback should always be given; back and forth.
