You need to bear in mind that everything can go wrong, so you need to have a number of back-up plans in place: The audio on the participants's computer is not working? Ask them nicely to try it from a mobile phone. They can't move the cards in the card-sorting exercise because of bad connection? Let them tell us about their process and we can do it together. We also need to understand that there are users that we will not be able to interview because they do not have access to technology, and we need to take this limitation into account when analysing the results.

Make use of simple words as much as possible that a participant will understand. Always have in mind that not everyone will understand words tailored to a specific product or service. Using simple words and explaining what a word means with examples helps participants to be comfortable and improves communication.
