Remember you don't have to use the latest and greatest technology to solve a problem. Programming languages, frameworks, patterns - they are all there for you to express your solution to the problem. Newer doesn't mean better, and often means there is less tooling and more bugs, especially with frameworks. So keep yourself in check. You can learn a new technology, or a newer version of an existing technology, and ASSESS a POSSIBLE plan to migrate. However, starting with the goal of migration before you have all the data is a recipe for disaster. Crawl, walk, run. Good luck!

I was working on this web project for a startup, and with tech evolving so fast, I had to stay ahead. Tools like Notion provide a structured platform to create and track our learning plan, helping us stay focused, motivated, and organized throughout our learning journey. Defining our objectives, breaking them down into manageable tasks, and regularly reviewing our progress, we can effectively manage our learning process and achieve our professional development goals.

Learning new skills is an ongoing journey that improves with practice. Without application, there's a risk of losing the knowledge acquired. Seek projects, even outside your team, where you can apply these skills. Discuss with your manager to find such opportunities, as I have done for my associates. If project involvement isn't feasible, join a study group within or outside your company. This keeps you updated, connects you with like-minded individuals, and may open unexpected opportunities.

Seeking feedback and mentorship from experienced developers is a valuable strategy for staying current with new technologies. Engaging in online forums, groups, and platforms, we can ask questions, share our work, and receive guidance from seasoned professionals. Finding a mentor, whether within our workplace, network, or online community, provides personalized support, challenges us to grow, and enhances our learning process. Through open communication and collaboration, we can gain diverse perspectives, learn from others' experiences, and expand our knowledge base, ultimately becoming more well-rounded and adaptable software developers.

The thing with learning new skills is that you get better at it the more you use/apply them. Else you run the risk of loosing the knowledge you spent so much time gaining. Whenever possible seek out a project (even if it is on a different team than yours) where you could get a chance to apply it. Have a conversation with your manager and see how they can help. I have done this for my associates when it was possible. If working on a project is not an option then see if you can be part of a study/skill group (could be in your company or outside). This is a great way to keep up with the latest and greatest in the space, connecting with others who are on the same journey as you & could provide opportunities you never knew were available.
