I LOVE being retired, but I also subscribe to the axiom: "it never hurts to keep your hand in." Remember the huge migration from analog to digital and the "so called common wisdom," including the cruel, under-the-breath comments and side bets that "the Old Guys" would fail like so many poorly-packed parachutes? ...how'd that work out? "The Old Guys" had their sense memory of production skills, including the scars from the razor blades making all those tape edits; all they needed was a few days to get up to speed on the editing software. Thus, never stop reading and updating one's memory banks!

This is my favorite question of all. This is actually my life. See, I never retired, I just got put out to pasture. I'm 44 and a Certified Colored Man (certified at the HNIC Institute, 2020). My take is that I am being overlooked because I just don't relate to a younger audience. I SHOULD be in a more admin role or at least have a small production company, but none of the banks would give me a small loan to get my foot in the door. I've networked, but all of my connections have exited their industries or moved on to non-creative positions or had families and just don't have it in them to compete anymore. That and AI. So specifically, I do a number of side hustles to make ends meet. Thats it. Surprise, bunny eyes!

If so inclined, you might host a Q&A session, again either in person or video chat. One thing to remember: few of us are "the font of all knowledge." None of us know what we don't know until we know, so it's OK to say, "I don't know." You retired from "the daily grind" to live your life as you wish; don't lose sight of this pathway if you opt to provide mentorship. I spent the bulk of my career working "Mornig Drive" and other off-beat hours, so it's not unusual for me to get up "early" or stay up well into the overnight hours. To this end, it's "no calls, please" before 10:00am or after 8:00pm (ET.) While I prefer answering emails because questioners have room to flesh out their question/points. This provides me the opportunity to pickup the phone for conversations - generally pleasant - with folks in time zones west of NYC and in Europe. Thus, remember to set your boundaries, which include your ability to say "no, thank you" if you so desire.
