As a teacher and teacher trainer with more than 20 years of experience, I would start by being a substitute teacher and try to teach different levels and grades. Then I would try teaching adults and seniors to decide which group and level resonates with me.

Consider launching your journey as a Teaching Assistant, supporting experienced educators and gaining classroom experience. You could also become an Instructional Coach, offering expertise in specific areas to empower teachers. After-School Program Coordinator lets you design engaging activities that ignite young minds. Finally, schools thrive on amazing support staff! Explore roles like librarian assistant or curriculum specialist, where you'll be a key part of the educational engine. Highlight your skills and passion during your job search – this is your exciting first step!

First, define what the ‘best entry level position’ means to you. Do you want to be a classroom teacher? Special Education teacher! Support level specialist? Define that, first. Mentorship/mentoring is one of the star-skills. If you have happened to mentored anyone in any skill, essentially related to a goal, then this can work in your favour. This will exhibit your personality trait on how you can be helpful with the experience you have.

Target positions that align with your skills and interests, such as teaching assistant, educational coordinator, or support roles within schools or educational organizations. Customize your resume to highlight relevant coursework, internships, and skills. To ace your interview, prepare by researching the institution, understanding their curriculum and values, and practicing answers to common questions. Demonstrate your passion for education, your readiness to contribute from day one, and your long-term commitment to the field. Be sure to ask insightful questions that show your engagement and interest in the role. Good preparation shows professionalism and greatly increases your chances of making a positive impression.

Look into who held the position previously and how the execution of the position was approached. Are you expected to do things the same way or differently? How likely will you be successful in that position? A first job in a new career can set the tone for your career. A bad experience in one's first position can turn that person away from the career.

Getting onto substitute lists helps classes that are down staff and you can see what the work environment is like at that location with that population. Try different things and see what you like the best. If you stick with that population and school there is a chance that an opening will come up and if they are happy with the work that you have been providing, you would likely be high on their list for an interview for the position.

Take a 2-3 week course at the most prestigious graduate school in your field of study. Select the course and professor with great care. Listen, study and learn. Make your mark!
