I now read "research options" like "what do I need". With this I mean, many times we use the word coaching as a synonym for education, training, mentoring, sparring, counselling.. So first thing is to get clear about what you need - is it reflecting, is it more skills, is it options for problems etc. Only then should you look for options / alternatives and evaluate what is possible and fits you. In principle I would say, if the need is about personal growth don't go for a "program", instead approach a known organization or coach who has the ability to customize and precisely tailor for your needs.

My three tips based on answering this question hundreds of time are as below 1. There is a lot on offer in the market. Please shift through them carefully and ideally do not take a course which is not recognised by either EMCC, AC or ICF. 2. Keep eventual accreditation in mind. While it might seem unimportant at the start, very soon it is likely to be. See point 1 as it helps here as well. 3. Speak to people who have done the course you want to and see where they are in their practice.

Here's two parts of my approach... Focus on Startup-Specific Challenges: The challenges faced by executives in a fast-paced startup environment are unique. I'd prioritize programs that address these challenges, such as scaling a team effectively, fostering innovation in a resource-constrained environment, and making data-driven decisions under uncertainty. Cost-Effectiveness: Executive coaching can be expensive. I'd explore cost-effective options like group coaching programs designed for startup leaders.

Prioritize finding a coach who aligns with your values and goals rather than just focusing on their reputation or credentials. A coach who understands your unique challenges, values, and aspirations can provide more tailored guidance and support on your leadership journey. Vous pouvez ainsi évaluer ce à quoi ressemblerait une séance de coaching avec ce coach. Et vous verrez, c’est assez évident, vous saurez immédiatement si c’est un grand oui ou un grand nom.

Compatibility is very important when choosing a coach. If the systems are there if the processes are there, if all the information is there, and there is no compatibility it’s like mixing oil and water. Compatibility is much like chemistry, When you have a chemistry with someone, you can get things done so much better and if you are compatible with someone you are able to connect better and be more effective while working with them. A way to check for compatibility is through values . By comparing each other values, it is very clear if people will be compatible with each other and then be more effective and achieving each other’s goals.

Not only do you want to find a coach who's values and principles align with your own, but you want to find one who will actively push and challenge you to become better as they are able to see your blindspots.

After doing the research on experience, qualifications and credentials , the most important aspect is compatibility. This surpasses all the other aspects. Without the strong rapport and relationship, there are no real coaching results.

One very overlooked consideration is the cost, payment plan and commitment to the student. Many programs sound great… but once you get in, the information or the coach or the delivery system may not meet expectations. During the course of my career I’ve purchased l training classes that in hindsight I wish I had looked at the refund policy and had read reviews from real people;)

Before you sign up to Executive Coaching, ensure that you and your coach are both crystal clear on your outcomes (a good coach will spend quite a bit of time delving into this and exploring what that means to you, before offering you a contract). Once you are both clear on your outcomes, you need to check that the coach has the skills, experience and runs on the board to get you there. The coach needs to confirm that you are 'coachable' (are open to changing your mindset, stretching yourself, doing things outside of your comfort zone). You both need to feel aligned and excited about moving forward and there should be a clear outline for what's involved; costs, duration, support outside of the coaching sessions (if any), conditions, etc

I think it is very important to distinguish between what the organisation wants the Coachee to develop versus what the Coachee as an individual wants to focus on, and for the most part a good Coach will help bring alignment to these and architect a learning process for this to happen. In otherwords, dont just Coach someone because it's what the organisation wants, The Coachee must have a vested interest in what matters to them.

Additionally, it helps to approach coaching with an open mind and a willingness to explore new perspectives. Building a strong rapport with your coach is key. Leverage introductory/discovery sessions to gauge compatibility and ensure alignment with your goals. Last but not the least - real work begins after the coaching sessions. Applying what you've learned to your daily life at work and outside is essential.

O primeiro passo em qualquer programa é entender o ponto que você está e onde quer chegar. Dessa forma alinhar as expectativas do que será atingido por meio do processo. Esse ponto é super importante para que possamos gerar avalia??es ao longo do processo, e também para que o coachee veja a evolu??o real do processo ao final dele. O processo de coaching é algo que gera grandes transforma??es, porém é necessário que o coachee esteja aberto a isso. You can not learn amazing communication skills in 1 week - be realistic. Nor can you change your entire character after the course. remember it to prevent disappointment.

This is what I did & it worked well- -Did a comparative study of 8-10 schools, understanding their teaching methods, courses content, timing, logistics, peers support and of course commercials. -Each schools has their approach/modality and it helps if you have the clarity of what you are seeking and if the teachings align with your values. -My practice is dedicated to developing strong leadership and teams across levels and ethos includes inner energy alignment with external momentum for continuous growth. That's exactly what I got in my courses. One had a spiritual element, inside-out & another was solution focused to organization needs. Personal factors apart from brand & ICF accreditation matters!

Let go of the output - certainly the desire for ‘credentials’ or certification, and find what feels robust and expansive enough to give you solid ground and a sense of freedom, emergence and possibility. Theory is useful as a foundation - it means nothing if the energetics don’t resonate, and practise is most important. Training is secondary to coaching and being coached!

The best executive coaching organizations are Vistage and The Alternative Board. Each has chapters throughout the Country. Each group is comprised of CEO’s who learn from one another, is led by a coach who is former CEO. The members hold each other accountable for tasks assigned to the each by the others. Beats any book or podcast!

Why coaching? I would strongly recommend for a new executive to dive deeper into clarifying differences of various instruments for professional and personal development, be it coaching, mentoring, phycological consultations, trainings, self-paced learning and so on. Aligning executive’s development goals with best means available (may be a combination of them) could be much better solution that diving straight into coaching without conscious answer to the “why?” question. In my personal experience of being an executive coach there were a number of cases, when other means for professional and personal development that were way more fitted to an exact need and a context of an executive were proposed.
