What do you do if you're losing motivation in your Conference Organization continuing education journey?

Seek the advice of a deeply trusted friend or colleague and ask them “Where do you see growth in me?” Sometimes having someone else’s perspective and observation can change the story.

If you are losing motivation, it may be time to reexamine why you are doing this in the first place. Is this work still important to you? If not, it may be time to pivot toward work you find more meaningful. If this work is still important to you, then seek to connect with those who are most impacted by your work. Who has attended a conference you have organized and had a significant positive impact? The more of those people you can talk to, the more you will see the results of your work. This can reenergize you to move forward.

Doing the same thing over and over again can become boring and tiresome, sometimes using the skills and knowledge you have in a different setting or job application can open up new worlds of opportunity for you. In a former job I transferred to a different section. I the state's Radiation Protection Program, I went from "emergency response" to Radioactive Materials Compliance - and found the most fascinating new world of personal growth and challenge. I still bless the supervisor who let me go so I could learn to soar.

One thing that I found helpful when losing motivation is connecting with others. It is often helpful to have a sounding board to refocus and become reenergized on my priorities. Connecting with others is also useful when looking to validate what you are feeling. In some cases, connecting with those in your current room leads you to exit the room. There can be no entrance without an exit. Good luck finding the right group.

I agree with Sean Beaver, above. If I am losing motivation for something I am doing, I look at why I am doing it. I reassess my reasons, rewards, and what I dislike or complain about the task(s) or job. I might make a list of each of those items. I would talk to a friend whose opinion I respect and trust. I might take a break from that task for a while and reassess my desire to continue and consider the impact on what I'm doing: on myself and on others - if I continue or if I stop. I may change my "gameplan" of how, how much, and what I do. If I decide to continue, I'll set new goals (SMARTER) and determine my new rewards to find new motivations that make the project fresh again.

I tell myself a new story about what I am accomplishing and do a full spectrum sensory visualization of my rewards and goals: seeing them already accomplished, hearing my inner self-talk - all positive, what I want to hear my peers to say to me, what I want to feel - tactically and emotionally.
