I of the things I introduced during covid was extended dailies. A daily was scheduled for an hour, where the daily was around 30 min. Why because I wanted to solve issues in the daily with all team members together. This way everybody was straight aware of decisions made and had the opportunity to discuss them. The rest of the time became our water cooler moment. We discussed technology, games, hobbies, movies we have seen, whatever. But also serious things like people being in a bad place, divorce, sickness, issues with the kids or family. By discussing all these things you get closer even when you are remote. You really start to know people, what they like and don't like. The mental state they are in and where they stand for.

Test, test, test. I like to cross pollinate and look around and try things. I experience with all kinds of methodologies, tools, guidelines, ... . But you should do, measure and evaluate. So lets try to do typed dailies in a slack channel. Do it for 2 weeks then gather the team and reflect and evaluate. Does it work continue if not don't and try something else. Do, measure, evaluate, rinse and repeat.

In my experience collaboration Fails for a few reasons. The team assembled doesn’t contribute to the overall goals. The Goal is poorly defined or often not defined at all. The Team lead has not defined the “why is this important speech.” Depending on which of the above is the issue, the solution will generally be around resetting with the team and driving home tue answer to any of the above questions and setting expectation on team out put and commitment.

The main issue I have seen is some kind of management enforcing teams to do things in a certain way. Do Agile, or SCRUM, use Kanban, dailies only 15 minutes at 9:00AM all this kind of crap. I like to empower my teams and only measure the output. I don't care if you work at night or on the beach. We have a task description and a deadline. And if the deadline is made, the team is in sync and feels good there is nothing to enforce only to learn from that team.
