My personal recommendation is -especially for early stages of implementing agile in your project- is to give 80% of your focus to the most critical Must Have task, and 20% to the next sprint's most critical Must Have. Planification is key when switching the gears of a project and communication should go hand in hand with it to help make it smoothly for everyone.

Another thing to consider when following an agile process for your UX projects is that you need to stay aligned with and ahead of the agile sprints of the development team. Determine how much of a lead time is practical (two sprints, three sprints, more) and make sure you stay on track. If the dev team's next sprint is dependent on deliverables from your team, not meeting your sprint goals will domino into what they can accomplish. This will result in either the entire timeline getting thrown off, or worse, in the dev team proceeding without the necessary input from UX. You do not want to be stuck in a situation where your team is one or more sprints behind the dev team, because instead of leading the design you'll just be doing cleanup.

My approach would be to move away from a linear, waterfall development approach. Instead, break down the project into smaller, iterative sprints focusing on specific user needs or functionalities. I believe this allows for continuous feedback and adaptation based on user testing and research throughout the design process. I know it's against the grain from other responses however it's easier to handle bitesize design problems.
