Learn about the cybersecurity problems they deal with, the tools they use, what skills & certifications they care about. This will help you give better answers that match what they're looking for. Also, try to figure out how technical your interviewer is. Are they cybersecurity expert, a boss, or someone who doesn't know technology? Then, use right words & examples to explain things in a way, they'll understand. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, practice stress management techniques, & maintain work-life balance. Seek mentorship, training, & feedback for continuous improvement.

This is a great time to show off those cybersecurity skills you've picked up, like for example, OSINT! I would recommend looking up every single person that is going to attend the interview and look up their public information. This way you'll be prepared with knowledge of who you'll be interviewed by and of the company as well. Remember, Maltego is your friend! Who said IS skills can't be applied to job hunting?

One of the best pieces of advice that I have received in my career when it comes to adaquately conveying technical skills at an interview or brief is being able to explain a very technical issue in such a way that a 5 year old could understand it. This is not intended to offend the receiver of the information but rather ensure nearly everyone hearing the exchange of information can wrap their mind around what's being said. It also allows for more indepth conversations afterwards or for followup questions to probe understanding.

3 Explain your thought process

Another way to show your technical skills in a cybersecurity interview is to explain your thought process and reasoning behind your decisions and actions. This will help your interviewer understand how you approach cybersecurity problems, what tools and methods you use, and what trade-offs and risks you consider. After all the prep - it can be a bad interview… accept it - it’s not the end of the world. Skilled interviewers see through - the interviewers who don’t understand the stuff themselves focus on cosmetics like your tone, presentation etc. and use them as tools to negate. How you approach a problem is what matters. Don’t be anxious - it’s just another human opposite to you…won’t bite / fight with you.

If you struggle to talk about your technical skills in Cybersecurity interview as Tech Industry leader, here's what to do: Prepare examples of past projects. Use simple language & listen well. Practice explaining tech stuff to non-tech people. Ask for feedback & be confident. Offer extra info, if required. Prepare examples of projects you've worked on to demonstrate your abilities. Then, use simple language to explain technical concepts, & listen carefully to the interviewer's questions. It's also helpful to practice explaining technical topics to non-technical people & ask for feedback from others on your communication skills. Finally, be confident in your abilities & offer to provide additional documentation or references, if required.
