What do you do if your team's productivity is declining in a partnerships role?

I think it important to get a sense of how each team member interprets productivity as it relates to their role and their work style. What are triggers that create invigorated strategies and what impacts a "slump". Obviously clear but yet nimble communication is key.

First thing- does the team know what productivity is expected from them? Are their goals clearly defined and measurable? Second- are positive outcomes incentivised properly? In revenue linked partnership roles, the performance and incentives need to be properly linked with revenue. Third- there need to be clear communication and both way feedback system. Fourth- Share best practices and invest in continuous learning of team

Productivity can be hindered by monotonous work and ineffective workflows. Together with the team, I look for instances in which workflows can be made more efficient. This could be automating tedious work, putting in place templates for partner communications, or making better use of project management software. I would implement several strategies to address the issue, such as: a. re-assess the situation to understand the root causes behind the decline in productivity. This may involve gathering feedback from team members, evaluating current processes and workflows, identifying any external factors impacting their performance. b. re-align priorities and goals. Clarifying expectations and refocusing efforts on high-impact activities. c. provide support and resources. Streamlining workflows, or allocating sufficient time for partnership activities. d. foster open communication, I am an advocate of open culture communication and transparency within the team, where individuals feel comfortable sharing concerns, ideas, feedback.

In my experience getting to know the root cause will be apt to take the right approach. Once the barriers are identified, the individual or a team can be motivated accordingly. Being more vocal & engaged results in creating an open culture within the team and ultimately taking steps to achieve a common goal.

Setting clear goals after engaging the team is one way to get the team refocused. Once they understand the essence of the goals, breaking the goals down into mile stones and celebrating every milestone achievement will boost their energy and revitalize the team. Step by step, precept upon precept does the magic as opposed to wanting to get everything done at the same time. Once a milestone is achieved the team can then move to the next clearly defined goal.

Once I understand the challenges, I work with the team to establish clear and achievable goals. These goals should be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) and directly tied to the success of our partnerships. Having a shared vision and well-defined objectives helps refocus our efforts and motivates the team.

Setting Objectives in a vacuum without understanding the environment, skillsets or motivation can be tricky. For example, are you asking your people to do a 10-minute task in 5 minutes? Is this causing steps to be skipped or increasing downstream rework? Are you indirectly rewarding poor performance by measuring and rewarding quantity over quality? Leaders must have the courage to (re)examine what they are measuring, and what behaviors they are tolerating, or encouraging? The old formula of Success = Skills & Knowledge + Motivation + Environment is good place to start when setting goals and objectives to apply SMART rules.

SMART goals are great and all - but what matters is WHY the team are building, selling, supporting etc. Are they fired about the work? Are they fired up for what the company is trying to achieve? In my opinion, if the team is aligned with the vision - I find they will go full throttle. I am trying to build the most rewarding credit card and banking experience on Earth - because the others cause headaches.

Yes establishing clear objectives is vital, however ensuring a team understands the importance of the objectives, and their role in achieving objectives is also vital. If a team is not actively engaged in achieving objectives, mission drift will be experienced as there is a dissonance between the objectives and the team. The action here is, to reframe the objectives using formats which are relevant, jargon free and resonate with the team. Set goals which can be monitored regularly and ensure each goal achieved is acknowledged. Equally when goals aren't met rapidly deal with the issues/problems that affected the achievement of the goals.

Assessing the reasons, discussions with the team, taking honest feedback, measures to bridge the gap and keeping Team in high spirit and morale to bring back high performance and productivity.

Brainstorming together can be a great exercise to improve communication!

Sometimes a team just needs a little pick-me-up. I recognize and celebrate individual and team achievements related to our partnerships. This public recognition can boost morale and reignite enthusiasm. I also explore opportunities for professional development, encouraging team members to attend workshops or conferences related to partnership management.

Reward what you want to promote. Starve what you want to discourage. First, your team has to be clear about what's to be achieved. Next you motivate them towards achieving it. If you don't have time to babysit and micromanage, ensure you're working with smart people and give them the liberty to take ownership and take responsibility. Design their OKRs to fit to measure their performance accordingly. As they perform, reward them generously accordingly to your capacity: paid leave, bonuses, options, etc. Let them know ahead that if they achieve A, they get B.

Understanding each individual’s motivation is so important to ensure results are achieved. A good way to keep up to date with that is to schedule a recurring “growth conversation” to ensure you’re aware of any changes in circumstances and potentially adapt your approach to that person when it comes to rewards and recognition.

Review hands on the systems and programs that are used on a regular basis and chances are, your area of frustrations are common for your team too! Making daily processes more efficient and user friendly will improve morale and take up less energy, resulting in a more productive team!

If your team's performance is down, it's most likely not about the team members' fault. Although "add tooling" is never the right answer, smart, purpose-built tools can uncover insights about your partner-processes that otherwise can't be visible. Measure what you can, find the right measurements to optimize and enable your partnership team to improve on those aspects.

Repetitive tasks and inefficient workflows can stifle productivity. I work with the team to identify areas where processes can be streamlined. This might involve utilizing project management tools more effectively, automating repetitive tasks, or implementing templates for communication with partners.

Bureaucracies, bottlenecks and blockers can be frustrating, especially when it's within control. Part of your main job as a leader is to consistently remove blockers or anything that can hamper partnerships or any set goal. Your must therefore be committed to frequently optimizing the processes to improve of efficiency and effectiveness. That is, always seek opportunities to make this faster better, and cheaper.
