Admittedly, this is a difficult question to answer because it essentially involves one's ego. On one hand one has to ask oneself what is it that is "overshadowing one's own professional growth," and the next is has one been effectively managing their time. In most cases, one's own team is the professional growth, and the lines aren't that blurry unless it pertains to detriments to one's own health. Strategizing a direction for the team involves involvement, afterwards, when the team has been effectively given a good morale compass, knowledge of priorities, and experience to tell the difference that's on the leader. Firmly, it's not martyrdom to lead, it's team-martyrdom if support is put on back burner without strategy for personal goals.
