What do you do if your team lacks diversity and inclusivity?

Na minha experiência percebi dois cenários: O primeiro que o time deveria ser uma micro representa??o da sociedade brasileira onde mais da metade da popula??o brasileira é mulher, também a popula??o declarada n?o branca é majoritária e outras representatividades como etarismo, orienta??o sexual e de gênero. O segundo ponto é a empresa exercer uma postura de diversidade. Digo isso pois n?o adianta somente vontades individuais e departamentais se há barreiras corporativas que impe?am que as parcelas da popula??o citada acima acessem os processos seletivos.

Addressing diversity and inclusivity within a team begins with establishing a comprehensive “Charter of Ethics” and shared the same values, including principles such as mutual respect, equal opportunities, non-judgment, and collaboration... Once this charter is in place, it is imperative for the entire team to commit to upholding it. This not only cultivates a 'Growth Mindset' culture but also fosters an environment of trust and belonging. Moreover, if issues persist, consider implementing group and pair work arrangements where women are well represented and organizing training sessions focused on fostering inclusive practices.

Embedding diversity and inclusion into the core values of a company is crucial for ensuring that employees naturally embrace these principles upon joining the organization. This underscores the significance of emphasizing the benefits of the induction process during the initial months of employment. Through this process, employees are equipped with essential skills, acquainted with the company culture, and sensitized to the importance of diversity and inclusion. Moreover, offering training sessions on gender equality and diversity further enhances their understanding and fosters a sense of respect from day one.

In my team I used to promote debates about diversity and inclusion topic to take advantage of celebration days, for ex. Woman’s day. On this occasions I invited a team speaker to address the specific topic and provoques a reflection about it on the team. It was very efficient because as a speaker was known by the team the message was more acknowledged.

Sharing the same values and vision within your company is immensely important, not only for the long-term viability of the organization but also for the growth and satisfaction of your team members. To sustain this environment and cultivate a culture of diversity, leading by example is paramount. Encouraging a collaborative culture and adopting a competency-based approach free from bias or exclusion, consistently practiced, serves to fortify relationships and enhance interpersonal connections among staff. Hence, it's crucial to conduct regular assessments of employees' conduct to verify alignment with the company's values and to implement corrective measures as needed.
