As a leader, I don't think our task list ever ends. Everything is on top priority and nothing is on priority. Confused? We often make all our leaders priorities, our priorities, forgetting what we are supposed to do. I have been a firm believer of the Eisenhower Matrix and Now consciously divide my work into four blocks. Urgent and Important. Urgent and not important Important not urgent Not Urgent Not Important This has helped me segregate much of my work and the rest I delegate to my team. They have to do it and I have to trust them to do it. This is the first belief you must have as a leader. Otherwise we will never be able to prioritize anything in our worklife.

Delegation requires having a team capable of doing the work you're a out to give to them, so before delegating I would assess who would be the people with the right skills and motivation to do the work I am about to delegate. This might require some interviews with them, assessing their wants and needs, and using this as an opportunity for their personal and career growth.

As a leader, the task list increases continuously when you are working in dynamic workplace. Something might pop-up every then and now. So, it's important to list down the tasks and prioritise it based on the need. It's important to pay attention for the urgent and important tasks. Optimising processes, implementing new and more agile ways of working, and coaching people for the new scenario coming are three key factors for success. For this to happen you'll need to understand what the current scenario looks like, who do you need to work with to develop better processes, ways of working and implementing the mindset shift that needs to happen. Then through a series of collaborative workshops you and your team can get to a place where as a group you find a new and better way forward. Having a common vision is a crucial factor for the future success of this whole initiative.

You task list never stops as a leader. You need to first prioritize but also have trust in your team and delegate. They may not do it the way you would and that’s ok. You need to support them with knowing priorities and direction. But trust is a big lesson for any leader to learn.

A growing to-do list might be stressful for a leader to manage and not all growth is bad. It is important for a leader to keep tab on the kind of to-do list are taking space on his/her desk and be picky about which one to embrace, to delegate and to let go.

Growing list is not a great sign. Relook at the tasks and map it you can delegate additional tasks or if the tasks are growing due to ineffecies, then look at resolving them.
