After a while reach out to the people one by one ask for a coffee chat. 4.) Research the organisations they are working with, and prepare some questions, but also allow flow to the coffee chat. Many people mingling in these scenes can actually be quite passionate about social impact and looking for ways to contribute. Engage with them, infect them with your enthusiasm and passion for change, and bring them onboard. This may be a longer-term strategy, but it may yield better results than approaching those philanthropists that are already heavily involved in the scene and are unlikely to have the capacity to engage with more projects.

More important that diversifying tactics, is diversifying PERSPECTIVES. Diversifying the range of perspectives within your network is crucial for fostering innovation, understanding complex societal issues, and creating sustainable change. By actively seeking out and embracing diverse perspectives, you open the door to creative solutions for impact, while growing your network. Diverse representation also ensures that SI initiatives are inclusive and relevant to a broader range of communities. You do not have to do all the work of finding and convening a network yourself. Other conveners exist such as summits, conferences, Discord channels, government initiatives, and fellowships. These events and channels are a hyperdrive for building your social impact network.

I like the saying 'If you aim at nothing, you'll hit it every time'. There's no point in networking if you don't have a clear goal in mind. The most common reasons for networking are: → Finding out if a career path is suitable for you → Getting inside knowledge from a specific company/organisation → Having a competitive advantage when applying to jobs → Receiving referrals for non-advertised positions Knowing exactly what you want to get out of a conversation will help you make the right questions and take the right advice. Networking is not a numbers game. I've met countless people with networks of 10,000+ people still unemployed, and people with 300+ connections that never run out of work. You decide what side to pick.

I believe that for network expansion to happen, the work has to be constant, always being attentive to listening to the network, bringing and exchanging news. I see that it is also important to always carry out internal and external studies to understand the current reality, thinking about who makes social impact happen, stakeholders and who benefits. Listening others for me ever is the key.

Are there underutilized connections that could be more actively engaged? Consider hosting events or initiatives to re-engage dormant relationships.
