Don't be shy. Your best work should not be kept inside a physical folio. Create an online portfolio. You know best which platforms speak to your fellow audience. I use academia.edu. It has a simple interface, no-fuss upload process for different formats, and an intuitive cataloguing system that allows me to separate my academic and commercial writing works. If you have other or multiple forms of creative outputs, then perhaps it could be tied together with a linktree profile? Last but not least, showcase your work on Linkedin. Don't be surprised to find like-minded researchers, writers, and creatives across the world. Who knows, they could be offering you your next commission? So keep trying, fellow researchers!

While looking for freelance work is not the time to be shy. Modernize your networking by: ?Marketing yourself (via LinkedIn or other professional groups) and tooting your own horn. ?Keeping up with industry news and posting about your interests and learnings. Don’t let fear of no likes stop you - you never know who is watching and learning. ?Interact with LinkedIn posts from companies you want to work with or freelancers you admire. This will help refine the algorithm to show your more relevant people/posts. ?Give BEFORE asking to receive anything. Offer to help with an assignment pro bono to prove yourself. This is not to be taken advantage of, but it can be a safe test-run and de-risk a larger future contract.
